This photo comes all the way from Hoi An, Vietnam. I shot this photo one evening as Claire and I strolled through the streets of Hoi An – one of our favourite places on earth. We discovered this lovely town on our honeymoon in 2009, and returned there again in 2011.
At sun down on any evening that falls under a full moon, the full moon lantern festival comes alive. Children come out to sell various goods to tourists. It is very tourist trap behaviour indeed, however (at the time we were there), the children were not pushy and aggressive as we have seen in other countries, such as Thailand.
This little girl gently accosted us holding a candle in a small container. Once purchased, the candle is lowered on a long pole by her father onto the river, where you make a wish and watch it float away with all the other floating specks of light.
